Swachh Bharat Mission, a campaign initiated by our Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi on 2nd Oct, 2014 is a cleanliness drive aimed to cover all statutory cities, towns and every village of India in order to clean the streets, roads and build infrastructure like toilets. At the launch of the mission, PM also undertook a firm resolution to achieve Open Defecation Free(ODF) India by 2nd Oct, 2019. The task ahead was difficult but not an impossible one. Open defecation (OD) is the human practice of defecating outside — in the open. Since the task ahead was not just to build toilets, but to bring about the requisite behavioural change among the community towards open defecation. Given the stipulated time frame various measures, activities, system and processes were implemented to achieve the desired results:

1. Efficient Fund Flow System- Direct Beneficiary Transfer ( DBT )

The fund was directly transferred to the beneficiary’s account in two equal instalments of Rs. 6000 each in form of incentive for the construction of IHHL (Individual Household Latrines). First disbursement happens when the beneficiary successfully constructs the twin pit and sends a Swikriti Patra (Agreement Letter) to the District Panchayat Raj Office.
